  Natural Rock Decor

Who we are...

Welcome to Glacial Impressions...

I am Kevin Selkregg, A Geologist, making beautiful natural home décor items from glacial rocks found on the beaches of the Great Lakes.

As a geologist I am able to recognize the igneous and metamorphic type rocks, conspicuous in their appearance among the beach shales, usually rounded due to erosion, each exhibiting a unique shape and vivid color, I personally collect them and later choose what to cut and form from each rock. The result is a one of a kind crafted piece or set of coasters , business card and tea light holders and more.  Please take a tour through my web site and explore the beauty within the rocks with me...

Where do the Rocks Come from?...

During the last Ice Age, Glaciers spread south from the polar regions transporting rocks hundreds of miles to the South.  As the Ice Sheet began to melt and recede, the transported igneous and metamorphic rocks settled out in place.   Today boulders, cobbles, and gragments of this rock type can be found on the shores of the Great Lakes and in creek beds of the lakes' drainage basins.

The Canadian Shield (in red) is a massive geologic structure of metamorphic and igneous rock stretching north from the Great Lakes to the Arctic Ocean, covering over half of Canada
